School of Ecological Environment and Urban Construction(CEEUC) was established in 1992 and has developed rapidly, contributing greatly to Fujian University of Technology. It originated as part of the Department of Building Services Engineering.
CEEUC started its bachelor’s programs in 2002 and was granted the honor of provincial key programs in 2010. In the same year, the Experimental Teaching Center of Environmental Science and Engineering was approved as a key laboratory at the same level. The school offers four bachelor programs: Building Environmental Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Water Supply and Sewerage Engineering, and Chemical Engineering and Technology, which are academically and empirically supported by six research units. To meet the needs of teaching and research, CEEUC has also established 14 laboratories. The school was authorized to award master’s degrees in 2013 in Heat Supply, Gas Supply, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning, and Environmental Engineering.
CEEUC now has 72 faculty members, including five professors, two of whom are master supervisors, and 19 associate professors. 20% of its academics hold PhD degrees; 79% have Master’s degrees.
The major research fields are: pollutant emission mechanism, prevention and treatment of gas and oil combustion, hydrodynamics (hydromechanics) and its heat transfer characteristics in HVAC equipment, high-efficiency-and-low-pollution combustion technology, testing-diagnosis-optimization control of building energy consumption, solid waste utilization technology, atmospheric pollution prevention technology, water pollution prevention technology, building energy-saving and facilities technology, and new and renewable energy utilization technology. CEEUC also has 3 research platforms: solid waste utilization technology, atmospheric pollution prevention technology, and building energy-saving technology.
During the period of “The 11th Five Years Plan” of China, CEEUC has accomplished more than 30 scientific research projects for central and local governments, as well as enterprises, and received funds of approximately 10 million yuan (about $ 1.471 million). The provincial government recognized its achievements in scientific research and teaching by awarding the school more than ten prizes, with one first prize and two third prizes. Of the academic works published, eight are monographs, translation works and textbooks, and over 200 are theses (of which 30 are collected by SCI, EI and ISTP).
There are five graduate students and 1,500 undergraduate students enrolled in CEEUC. The department has created a student-friendly system with a strong learning tradition and good academic atmosphere. Students are equipped with sound interdisciplinary knowledge, theory, and strong capabilities in applications, thus opening up employment possibilities for graduates. The majors, gas conveyance and distribution and solid waste utilization technology, were designed at CEEUC and are among the first-choice disciplines in Fujian province. Over the last two decades, the school has had many high-caliber students, now playing vital roles in renowned universities, enterprises, and government agencies, both at home and abroad, making great contributions to society.
