Building Environment and Equipment Engineering ----Master’s program

Since 1992, Department of Building Environment and Equipment Engineering (DBEEE) has developed rapidy, which originated from the Department of Building Services Engineering, and it greatly contributed to Fujian University of Technology (FJUT), former Fujian Institute of Architecture (FJIA).

DBEEE now has 67 faculty members, including 3 professors, 2 of whom are master supervisors, and 15 associate professors. 20% of its academics hold PhD degrees; 79% are MSc degree holders.

During the period of “The 11th Five Years Plan” of China, DBEEE has accomplished more than 30 scientific research projects for central and local governments as well as enterprises, and received funds of approximately 10 million yuan (about $ 1.471 million).

There are 5 graduate students and 1,500 undergraduate students enrolled in DBEEE. The department has created a student-friendly system with a good learning tradition and academic atmosphere, aiming at equipping students with sound interdisciplinary knowledge and strong ability in theories and applications, thus opening up the possibility of finding jobs for the graduates. Gas conveyance and distribution, solid wastes utilization technology designed and offered here are among the best-choice disciplines in Fujian province. Over the last two decades, DBEEE has cultivated more than 5,000 students of high quality, many of whom are now playing vital roles in well-renowned universities, enterprises, government agencies both at home and abroad, making contributions to the progress of the society.

(1) Disciplines
This discipline covers the following major directions: pollutant emission mechanism, prevention and treatment of gas and oil combustion, hydrodynamics (hydromechanics) and its heat transfer characteristics in HVAC equipment, high-efficiency-and-low-pollution combustion technology, testing-diagnosis-optimization control of building energy consumption, solid wastes utilization technology, atmospheric pollution prevention technology, water pollution prevention technology, building energy-saving and facilities technology, new and renewable energy utilization technology. DBEEE also has 3 research platforms: the platform of solid wastes utilization technology, the platform of atmospheric pollution prevention technology, and the platform of building energy-saving technology.

(2)Research Conditions
DBEEE started its bachloar’s programs in 2002 and was granted the honor of provincial key programs in 2010. In the same year, the Experimental Teaching Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering was approved as a key laboratory at the same level. DBEEE is offering 4bachelor programs, namely Building Environment and Equipment Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Techniques and Water Supply and Sewerage Engineering, which are academically and empirically supported by 4 research units. To meet the needs of teaching and research tasks, DBEEE has also established 14 laboratories. DBEEE is to be authorized to award master’s degrees in 2013 in Heat Supply, Gas Supply, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning, and Environmental Engineering.
