School of Civil Engineering

The School of Civil Engineering is one of the longest established at FJUT, dating back over 100 years. The faculty achieved provincial teaching team status in 2009. In 2008, in recognition of an innovative experimental pilot for the training of civil engineering talent, the major of civil engineering achieved grade national characteristic specialty construction point and provincial key discipline status in structural engineering and geotechnical engineering.

The school aims to help students develop advanced application-oriented engineering talent. Students learn to adapt, create and use practical ability in majors including civil engineering, traffic engineering, reconnaissance technique and engineering. In recent years, graduates achieved an employment rate exceeding 95%, working in fields related to technology and management, including bridge and tunnel construction, road and pipe network, metro engineering design, construction management, real estate, traffic planning, engineering reconnaissance, quality supervision, construction supervision, construction cost management and software application.

The School of Civil Engineering is comprised of six teaching and research sections, seven research laboratories, and a comprehensive practical training center which achieved recognition as the demonstration center of provincial experimental teaching in institutes of higher learning in 2007. The distinguished faculty of 86 full-time teachers includes three “Mingjiang Scholars”, 45 professors and vice professors, 25 PhD’s, nine ongoing-study and 48 postgraduates. There are two experts granted special allowance by the State Council, one national teacher of excellence, two star teachers in Fujian colleges and universities, and provincial academic vice chairmen, executive directors and directors. They are supported by a teaching staff with strong teaching, research, and practical engineering capabilities. There have been 62 teachers with double-quality professional titles and 46 teachers acquiring the state-recognized vocational qualification in various national professional techniques. In addition, the department has a cooperative schooling agreement with the college of civil engineering and water conservancy of Tsinghua University, and employs many noted professors and doctoral supervisors to guide and participate in the advancement or our school, including Mr. Lin Youkun, academician in the American Engineering institute and founder of random structural dynamics.

The school is responsible for nearly 130 teaching and scientific items in the national provincial ministry of education and has achieved nine national patents and ten additional patent authorizations. The school has published approximately 500 papers in various periodicals, including level 1 publications and core and university academic journals, including 70 in SCI, EI and ISTP. The school also boasts one course of excellence at the national level, four courses of excellence at the provincial level, six teaching result awards at the national and provincial level, as well as many scientific and technological S & T progress prizes.

The school offers practical teaching environments both in and out of the university. The comprehensive practical center on campus achieved the teaching result award at the national level. The center is equipped with complete devices and overseen by academic advisors with rich experience. Off campus, the school has cooperative agreements with more than ten large-scale enterprises in Fujian Province in the fields of design, construction, reconnaissance and traffic, providing internships to students.
