Introduction to Physical Education of Fujian University of Technology:Public Physical Education is a required course for students in Fujian University of Technology. Over the years, based on the orientation of training applied talents, PE Teaching and Research Office actively promotes the construction of college PE courses and comprehensively improves teaching qualities. Starting with cultivating the sense of “healthy comes first” and “lifelong sports” for students, we undertake a great number of reforms, inclduing teaching contents, teaching methods, the combination of teaching theory and practice etc. ,and start to build up a PE teaching system with distinctive characteristics.
Physical education, an important part of college education, directly affects the teaching quality. According to the features of students’ physical and mental development, ttheir ages, gender characteristics, he requirement of PE syllabus and the actual condition of our university, we have adopted flexible and diversified teaching forms to improve the teaching method and make full use of our teaching condition to improve teaching quality. Based on the actual condition of our university, combining with the basic requirements of “The Teaching Program for National College Physical Education Course” and tightly keeping to objectives of this course, we divide classes according to programs, reconstruct the existing class structure and open some required courses, inclduing physical education theory, physical healthology, and basis of physical education etc.; we also open some selective courses, including basketball, volleyball, football, martial arts, table tennis, badminton, aerobic gymnastics,tennis,orienteering, and bodybuilding etc..
By taking effective physical exercises students’ constitution will be strengthened and the development of their physical and mental health will be enhanced as well We aim to help students build their bodies and their adaptability to environment which is necessary to their future career and fosters the sense and habit of going for physical exercise, wich will lay a good foundation for their lifelong physical exercise. By studying the theory of physical education, our students will love sports, understand sports, look inside their bodies and treasure life. They can master the basic principle and theory of physical education, acquire the basic ways and methods of physical exercise and have the basic ability of engaging in sports activity by themselves and living and working in a healthy, safe way in order to meet the need of physical and mental health.
Mass sports activities and competitions in our university are launched under the guidance of university sports committee and implemented by Department of Physical Education and other departments. In order to promote mass sports in our university, demonstrate its comprehensiveness，collectivity，coherence，attractiveness，comparability，novelty and encourage more students to participate, FJUT Athletic Sports Meeting will be held every year and there are also some activities e.g. football, volleyball, basketball, tug-of-war, table tennis, badminton, directional cross-country running, rope skipping and other competitions. The sports events set by our school cover a wide range and have a high participation rate, which fully arouse the enthusiasm of students to participate in physical activities, thus can effectively improve students’ physical quality.
Under the current situation, we must broaden the horizon, continuously make innovations, and implement the spirit of Sunshine Sports” to have a physical education with distinctive characteristics of Fujian University of Technology. Our university possesses sports venues and equipments that can meet the need of teaching and training.
Sports venues of our univeristiy:2 standard tracks and fields; 19 standard basketball courts (including13 light fields); 5 volleyball courts(3 light fields); 3 light tennis courts; 2 football fields ( artificial turf ); 2 standard swimming pools ( shared zone).
Sports competition:In the 14th University Games of Fujian Provence, the delegation of Fujian University of Technology has won 5 gold medals, 9 silver medals, 16 bronze medals and got the mark of 372, ranking the 6th in the competition, just behind the 5 old undergraduate universities. The delegation also won the title of PE Morality Award given by the University Committee of Fujian Province.
Introduction to Department of Physical Education:There are 4 teaching and research offices, including ofiice of required courses, office of elective courses, office of group competition and office of physique health, and 1 administrative office in our department. The department has a faculty of 27, including 1 professor, 18 associate professors, 8 instructors, 1 teaching secretary and 2 storekeeper. Among them, there are 1 international referee of table tennis and 1 international referee of football.
