International College is a recently established division of Fujian University of Technology. Its sole mission is to provide an undergraduate education comprised of international cooperative programs, based on economic globalization and education internationalization.

In addition to the resources and engineering faculty of FJUT, the International College actively introduces an international teaching staff and global course materials and methods. This creative educational approach is interactive and in multiple languages, with an emphasis on English. More than 30% of classes are taught by foreign teachers, and most are in dual languages. Students receive global credit acknowledgement.

Our cooperative program, ISEC, is advocated by the China Scholarship Council. This pilot program aims to provide a platform for the communication of international education methods, teaching resources, funding, and improvements.

International College began student enrolment in 2013, with 120 students majoring in architecture, 120 in civil engineering, and 60 in software engineering.

A Brief Introduction to the majors

Architecture

This program aims to help students adapt to the physical and moral needs of a modernizing society and its comprehensive development. Students will gain architecture expertise, with both strong theoretical knowledge and practical ability. They will learn about quality construction, management and service, as well as be encouraged in their innovative spirits and entrepreneurial aspirations.

Civil Engineering

This major aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and training necessary to become certified civil engineers. They are encouraged to become advanced specialists and make use of creativity in their practical applications. Graduates will have expertise in the building and management of civil engineering projects.

Software Engineering

This major aims to provide students with excellent programming skills, strong software development capabilities and advanced technology qualifications. Students will be enlightened as to the need to be able to adapt to the demands of a changing society. They will become advanced specialists, with strong practical capabilities and the ability to use creativity in practical applications. Graduates will be prepared for careers in software design, development, testing maintenance, analysis and management.

He has been long engaged in urban planning education, architectural history and theory teaching and research work, and has ever taught: Introduction to City Planning, Principles of City Planning, Overall Planning of Cities, Principle and Design of Scenic Spot Planning, The Theory of Chinese Traditional Architectural, Chinese Traditional Architectural Culture, etc. and has presided five department-level research subjects, including two national sub-subjects. Of all the more than 40 published papers, eight are indexed by EI. He has also published one book, and compiled one book (associate editor). (Software Engineering Professor) Zhao Zhongxiao,male, born on 1948.5.6, Professor.The current National College of Computer Basic Education Research AssociationDirector, Eastbranch executive director, vice chairman of Fujian Province.
Professor Zhao has a solid theoretical foundation and rich computer experience, teaches Introduction to Computers, Introduction to C programming language, database systems, data structures and algorithms, assembly language, operating system and other programs. The main research directions: program design, algorithm design and analysis, database theory.
Professor Zhao has published 10 books and published more than 30 papers, completed two provincial-level researches, university research 3, the national certifications2.

The “International Scholarly Exchange Curriculum (Undergraduate)” Program (ISEC), is an international cooperative project. Participants include some Chinese universities, led by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) of the Ministry of Education, well-known foreign universities, and international education experts. As stated in the national 2010-2020 outline of educational development, the principles of the project are the “deepening of the reform of higher education through internationalization.

In January 2013, the ISEC program of Fujian University of Technology (FJUT) was approved by the Fujian Educational Committee to develop three majors: architecture, civil engineering, and software engineering. The enrollment plan for 2013 was for 300 students, 120 students each in Civil Engineering and Architecture, and 60 students in Software Engineering.

The ISEC Program adopts an innovative model of training. There are four years in the bachelor period (five years for Architecture), with students spending two years in China and two years abroad (“2+2”). During the first two years, students will have intensive English training in China, complemented by ISEC Common General Education Courses. In the third and fourth years, qualified students can attend cooperating American universities to complete their professional courses.

The ISEC Program applies mutual recognition of credits. Students who finish the specified studies in the American universities can apply for the bachelor’s degrees they award, while at the same time applying for undergraduate diplomas and bachelor’s degrees from FJUT. Students who do not go abroad or return to FJUT after foreign study can complete their ISEC international courses and receive undergraduate diplomas and bachelor degrees awarded by FJUT, if qualified.

Two-way Mutual Recognition of Credits: CSC provides unified student management services for students studying at universities at home and abroad. Credits obtained in the first two years will be accepted by the U.S. partner universities, in the true spirit of mutual recognition.

Economical Study Mode: The expense of the study abroad is reduced greatly due to the credits obtained in the first two years of study in China being approved by the U.S. partner institutions.

Professional Services for Studying Abroad: The Orient International Education Exchange Center, which is a subsidiary of CSC, will provide ISEC students with a variety of services for studying abroad, including consultation for foreign study, study planning, overseas university application assistance, guidance in filling out forms, visa counseling, and summer camp recommendations.

Bilingual teaching: Bilingual education is adopted for all courses. Oral English and Written English are taught by foreign teachers, who hold certificates in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Training programs in IELTS are provided to help students to study abroad.

Small-class teaching is implemented in each Oral English class, with only 25-30 students.

Students returning to China after participating in the ISEC Program understand international operating rules and have unique competitive advantages. They will help to fill the shortage of high-quality professional talent in the domestic market, thus enjoying higher salaries and more job opportunities in the competitive employment market. Students who do not go abroad will still have achieved strong English communication skills, a global vision, and team-work spirit, making them attractive to domestic and international employers.
